Item 11077
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug with Tulip.
The decoration indicates that it was probably made by Jonathan and William Ingell who ran their pottery in Taunton, Massachusetts in the 1830's to 1840's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 50).
Circa 1840, this beauty features a Large Size, Ovoid Form, Square Spout, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip. The tulip has two base leaves and a blossom with nine petals, and is surrounded by a Curvy Semi-Circle. Stands 16 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the spout and some light staining. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Two chips on the making: 1" on top of the spout on the right side and 1 1/2" on the underside at the edge.
