Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by F. T. Wright & Son, Taunton, Mass. This is the mark of the Franklin T. Wright and his son who ran their pottery from 1866 to the 1870's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 50).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Dangling Iris in Freehand Cobalt Blue. The flower has 7 leaves and a blossom with 12 petals. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Freehand decoration on Wright pieces is unusual and I cannot find this iris decoration on any Wright pieces documented on the internet. Also, note the similarities of this decoration to those on Cowden and Wilcox pieces from Harrisburg, PA. Shared decorator?
Excellent Condition. A 7/8" chip on the left side of the handle (closeup). That's it! No spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
