Item 11305
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare 1 Gallon Merchant Jug made for "Josephy Bolles, 200 Comercial St., Boston."
The decoration is distinctive of the Hudson Valley Pottery of West 12th Street, N.Y. This pottery belonged to the brothers Edward and John Roche who ran it from 1849 to 1858 when it was sold to Louis Lehman and then to William MacQuoid (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 61-62).
This beauty features the Company Advertising Impressed on the Shoulder and Washed in Cobalt, and a Dotted Floral with Two Dotted Leaves and Four Dotted Petals. Did I say dots? Simple but commanding! Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 2 1/2" vertical surface firing line to the left of the decoration (closeup) and modest glaze wear. No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
