Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 1 Gallon Wax Sealer Canning Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Finely Tooled Grooved Wax Sealer Rim, Slightly Canted Sides, Top and Bottom Stripes, and the Company Intertwined in a Patriotic Shield with Four Stars at the Top, the Company Name in a Dotted Banner-- all with Daisies Framing the Outside. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Wear on the inner rim and minor chips inside the outer rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
A fine example of this patriotic sealer with light gray glaze, top and bottom stripes, and crisp stencil which is a desired combination not often seen.
