Item 12264
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jug made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a more Ornate Decoration than Typically Found on a 1 Gallon Jug. A wavy stripe anchors the shoulder while a detailed stencil fills the front. The company advertising frames a center garland and is itself framed by florals in all four corners. The stencil is very crisp and in dark cobalt. A wide cobalt stripe completes the decoration at the base. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A small kiln touch to the left of the decoration in the making.
