Item 12256

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 6 Gallon Stoneware Jar.

The decoration is similar to that of Daniel Shenfelder who made pottery in Reading, Pennsylvania from approximately 1860-1900 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 24-26), but it is more likely to be that of Donaghho and Beale of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania who made pottery from 1860 to 1867 (Shaltenbrand, p. 172).  There is some connection between Shenfelder and Donaghho and Beale as the decoration indicates-- perhaps shared decorators.  See the last picture of a signed Donaghho and Beale (Thanks to Jeff Christopher for fine-tuning this listing).

This beauty features Three Vines hanging down from the Shoulder while a Brushed Cobalt Vine with Three Blossoms Undulates Across the Front.  Additional cobalt at the handle terminals.  Stands 16 1/2" tall.

Very Good Condition.  A y-shaped hairline below the right handle with 1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 7" arms (closeup).  The latter does not show inside.  No chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
