Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features Two Top and a Bottom Stripe that Frame the Company Advertising in an Arch Surrounding an Elaborate Floral Sprig and Framed with Large Tulips on the Top Corners and Large Daisies on the Bottom Corners. The capacity number framed by leaves at the bottom completes the decoration. Stands 16" tall.
Excellent Condition. A dime-size chip in the center of the left side and some scattered small and light stains. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some surface scratches in the making.
