Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 2 Gallon Stoneware Cream Pot made and stamped by "J. W. Ingell & Co., Taunton, Mass."
Jonathan and William Ingell ran their pottery in Taunton in the 1830's to 1840's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 50).
This beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Tall Rim, Inscribed Shoulder, Applied Handles, Thick Gray Glaze, and a Brushed Cobalt Double Tulip in Rich Cobalt. The back features the capacity number flanked by leaves. Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. Measures 9 3/4" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A narrow 1" chip in the rim in the back, a 1 1/2" craze line above the right handle not seen inside (closeup 1), and a 3/4" chip at the base on left side. No inner rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 4" drying or firing line on the bottom of the right side in the making and glazed over (closeup 2).
