Item 12062
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this very special 1 Gallon Pitcher whose decoration indicates that it was made by James or Leet Hamilton of Greensboro, Pennsylvania.
Circa 1860, this pitcher features the Premium Clay from the Banks of the Monogehala River, Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Tall Neck, Bulbous Body, Applied Handle with Cobalt Accents, and Brilliant Cobalt Freehand Decoration. The spout sports three vertical squiggle stripes, and is flanked on each side by two upward moving comma vines. The main attraction is vining with five fuchsia blossoms that wraps almost all the way around the body of the pitcher. The cobalt is 11 out of 10 and the overall decoration is striking indeed. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
This beauty was one of my favorites in my collection 20 years ago.
Very Good Condition. Three 1/4" chips on the right side of the spout (closeup 1), a 1/2" chip inside the rim (closeup 2), and a faint horizontal line in the handle (closeup 3). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
One of the best early Greensboro pitchers out there.
