Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare 3 Gallon Stoneware Cream Pot made and stamped by the "Hudson River Pottery, West 12th Street, Roche Brothers Agts., 34 Fulton St." [some missing letters]
This pottery belonged to the brothers Edward and John Roche who ran it from 1849 to 1858 when it was sold to Louis Lehman and then to William MacQuoid (William Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900, pp. 61-62).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp in Four Lines and Brushed with Cobalt, and Two Tulips with 4 Leaves and a Blossom with 3 Petals--All Dotted!. This tulip is a distinctive design of this pottery. Simple but commanding! Measures 11 3/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim, five chips outside the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), and light scattered staining. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
