Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is perhaps the Tiniest Known Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "C. Crolius, Manufacturer, New York."
This little guy is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
Circa 1820, this beauty features an Very Small 7 1/4" Size, Early Ovoid Form, and the Ovoid Pottery Stamp with Brushed Cobalt Trim. Stands 7 1/4" tall
Excellent Condition. A faint horizontal line in the middle (closeup) and an invisible one at the base of the handle. That's it! No spout or base chips, body hairlines or cracks, stains, or restoration.
An early and historic piece of New York history.
