Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 5 Gallon Ovoid Jar made by William (Leet) and James Hamilton in Beaver, Pennsylvania. 
 
These brothers founded a pottery in Beaver by 1841 and ran it until they moved to Greensboro, PA around 1850 where they founded the pottery known as James Hamilton and Company (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners,  pp. 131-33). 
 
This beauty features a Larger Size, Ovoid Form with Wide Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Thick Grooved Handles with Cobalt Accent, Pottery Stamp, and Exuberant Cobalt Decoration.  A brushed cobalt vine with 35 leaves and 4 big fuchsia blossoms cascades across the front in exquisite dark and shiny cobalt.  Stands 15 1/4" tall.
 
Very Good Condition.  Some scattered surface wear, a 1/4" chip on the base, and a 4" vertical hairline below the bottom fuchsia wraps under to a Y-shaped line on the bottom (closeups).  No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration. 
 
Rarely do these large early pieces from Beaver arrive on the market, especially this well decorated.
