Item 10447
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks, is this wonderful 2 Gallon Merchant Jug made and stamped "Geo. F. Hewett, 34 Foster St., Worcester, and 112 and 114 Pearl St., Boston, Mass."
The decoration makes it easy to attribute the maker of this jug to Franklin T. Wright and his son who ran their pottery in Taunton, Massachusetts from 1866 to the 1870's (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 50).
This beauty features the Merchant Advertising with Cobalt Wash on the Shoulder, and a Large Dove on a Branch Decoration on the Body. The decoration is created with a slip cup in dark and bright cobalt and was a signature decoration of the Wright pottery. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip on the spout back by the handle and some light staining near the base from use. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
A Worcester and Boston Merchant Jug with Large Dove Decoration by Wright of Taunton in Excellent Condition.
