Item 11914
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock.
The form and decoration make it easily to attribute this jar to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA. He ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1840, this beauty features a Tooled Square Rim and Ribbed Shoulder, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral Garland that Travels All Around the Crock. The garland sports three dangling flowers on each side and a upright flower under each handle. Dark, rich cobalt was used throughout. Measures 5 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip inside and a 1/4" chip outside the rim, and two chips on the underside at the edge (3/8" 1 1/4"). No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A 3/8" clay void on one flower petal in the making.
