Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 5 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Haxstun & Co., Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Andrew K. Haxstun who ran the company from 1875-1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty is spectacular. It sports a Paddletail Bird Poised on a Bouquet of Flowers and Framed by Another Bouquet of Flowers. Dots, dashes, tendrils, leaves, buds, and blossoms are going everywhere! Bright and shiny cobalt too! Measures 12 1/2" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Four minor chips inside the rim (1/4" or less), a 1/4" flake outside the rim, and a tiny stain on the back. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Exceptionally clean. A short 2 1/2" surface drying line from the rim inside in the making (closeup).
Comes from the William Bouck collection. With Warren Broderick, this gentleman co-authored the book, "Pottery Works: Potteries of New York State's Capital District and Upper Hudson Region" (Associated University Presses, 1995).
