Item 11658
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Wax Sealer Canning Jar from "Hamilton and Jones, Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features the Larger Gallon Size, and Company Advertising Nestled in a Patriotic Shield Resting on a Leafy Garland. The stencil is complete, strong, and executed in dark cobalt. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" nibble on the inner rim. Otherwise, as made. Some fine scattered bubbles in the cobalt in the making.
The best example of this more elaborate shield stencil that I have had the privilege to sell.
