Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration. A stripe underscores the rim, a straight and wavy stripe define the shoulder, a vine cascades across the top, the company advertising occupies the middle with a wavy line underscore, and the capacity number flanked by snowflakes with a two straight stripe underscore completes the decoration at the bottom. Stand 12" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8 chip on the bottom rim of the tooled shoulder in the back. That's it! No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Slightly out-of-round in the making.
