Item 11622
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug stamped "BOSTON."
This beauty is readily attributed to Frederick Carpenter who worked in Charlestown, Massachusetts from 1804-1827 and made pieces marked "Boston" for that market. The "BOSTON" in all capital letters and the top and bottom Ochre Dip indicate Carpenter's work (New research by Pete Schriber refining older research by William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 48-49).
This jug has all the indications of being Carpenter's work: An Early Ovoid Form, Reeded Shoulder, Ochre Dip Top and Bottom, and "BOSTON" in all Capital Letters. Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some scattered staining and manufacturing imperfections. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
If you like early Boston stoneware, here is an early 19th century piece by Carpenter in fantastic condition.
