Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug with Bird made and stamped by "Frank B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Large and Bright Bird on a Branch Decoration. Gorgeous cobalt. Stands 13" tall.
As you know, F. B. Norton rarely decorated his pottery with birds.
Excellent Condition. A flat 3/8" chip on the left side of the spout, and some light staining on the left side from use. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
