    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic Covered Redware Jar made by Lester (1935-2011) and Barbara Breininger of Robesonia, Pennsylvania early in their careers. 

     

    Breininger redware carries on the redware folk pottery tradition of the Pennsylvania German community.  

     

    The underside of the base is incised, "Robesonia, PA, B & L Breininger, July 6, 1976, Sunny & Hot."  The underside of the lid is incised, "B & L B, PA, 1976."

     

    This piece features a Yellow Lead Glaze, Twisted Rope Handles, and Sgraffito Decoration with Green Slip Accents.  The decoration includes a folk art eagle on the front with a "liberty" banner in its mouth and a clutch of six arrows in its talons, and a different upright flower under each handle and on the back.  The lid features six stars.  Stands 10 1/2" to the top of the knob.

     

    Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" chip on the underside of the lid at the edge.  Base is as  made.
