Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Cream Pot made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT ."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 43-44).
This beauty features a Larger Size for a Cream Pot, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Bird on a Floral Branch Executed with a Slip Cup in Strong Cobalt. The birdie is 8" from from the tip of its beak to the tip of its tailfeathers. The floral branch is accented with many dots. Stands 12 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" glaze flake on the left handle, a few glaze flakes on the bottom of the right side and back (closeup), a few scattered small stains. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
