Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is the Early 1 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "C. Crolius, Manufacturer, New York."
This jug is the work of Clarkson Crolius Senior who made pottery in New York City from 1800 to 1838 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 62).
Circa 1820, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Reeded Neck, the Ovoid Pottery Stamp, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland. Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. Stands 11" tall
Excellent Condition. Two 1/4" chips on the footer. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A slight recess on the left shoulder in the making.
An early and historic piece of New York history.
