Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock whose form and decoration indicate that it was made by Samuel Irvine of Newville, Pennsylvania.
Irvine bought the pottery of Henry Zigler in 1865 and made pottery until about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 44-45).
This beauty features a Thick Tooled Rim and Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent at the Terminals, and a Bold Triple Floral on Each Side. Each floral sports 12 leaves and three blossoms with 6 petals. The cobalt is rich and shiny. Measures 6" tall and 11 1/4" wide.
Excellent Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
