Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 2 Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Jar attributed to Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1840, this beauty features a Squared Rim with a Garland of Three Sets of Alternating Two Leaves and Two Blossoms on Both Sides. This is a very pleasing and identifiable Remmey decoration. Additional Three Comma Vines from the Rim on Each Side and Chains under Each Handle. Strong cobalt throughout the design which contrasts nicely with the light gray glaze. Stands 11" tall.
Excellent Condition. 3/8" chip 1" up from the base on one side as shown (pic 4). Otherwise, no rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
