Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Pitcher whose form and decoration indicate that it was made by Samuel Irvine of Newville, Pennsylvania.
Irvine bought the pottery of Henry Zigler in Newville in 1865 and made pottery until about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 44-45).
This beauty features a Semi-Squared Rim, Tooled Neck and Shoulder, Brushed Comma Vining from the Rim and on the Spout on Both Sides, and Two Flowers with Leaves on the Body. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. Strong cobalt throughout. Stands 12" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1" chip on the footer on the right side and surface wear throughout. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
