Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar with Leaf Garland.
It is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Large Size, Squared Rim, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with Long Leafy Stem on Each Side. The cobalt is rich and shiny. Stands 16 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Three 3/8" chips inside the rim, five small chip outside the rim (1/8" to 3/8"), and a semi-circular hairline ping on one flower leaf (closeup). No base chips, rim or base hairlines or cracks, stains, or restoration.
