Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.

This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).

Circa 1860, this beauty features a Tooled Square Rim and Grooved Shoulder and Four Exuberant Brushed Cobalt Leaves Around the Middle.  The leaves are executed in strong and shiny cobalt and really display nicely on the warm gray glaze.  Stands 10 1/4" tall.

Very Good Condition.  Minor nibbles and four chips on the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), a faint surface Y'shaped craze line on the underside, nd a couple small stains from use.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
