Item 5965

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.

This jar is easily attributed to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).

Circa 1860, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim for Tying a Cover Over it, and a Garland of 3 Brushed Cobalt Flowers Around the Middle.  The flowers have 9 to 11 leaves and a blossom that is reminiscent of a cluster of grapes.  Gorgeous cobalt too!  Stands 10 1/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  An 1/8" nibble on the top and two on the bottom fold of the tooled rim, and two tiny stains.  That's it!   No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A 1" chip on the bottom edge below one flower in the making and glazed over.
