Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware Spittoon Cuspidor from Virginia.

The decoration on the sides is closest to that found on pottery by the Ducey Brothers of Petersburg, Virginia.  They were in business from 1855 into the 1870's.  I have added a picture of their decoration that is extremely similar to that decorating this piece.  The picture and more information are found in Curtis Rice, James River Stoneware, pp 254-261.

Dating around 1860 this beauty features a carefully molded rim and footer and Four Brushed Cobalt Sideways Tulips around the Middle.  Measures 4 1/4" and 8 1/2" wide.

Excellent Condition.  Two fine 1" lines from the center top opening, and three chips on the underside near the edge.  No rim chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Mottled glaze in the making.
