Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar.
The distinctive decoration indicates that it was made by Noah Furman of Cheesequake, New Jersey in the mid-19th century (M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, p. 191-193).
Dating about 1850, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim for Use with a Lid, a Freehand Capacity Number 1 1/2, and Two Delicate and Artistic"Spitting" Flowers in Pretty Cobalt Blue. The flowers sport five leaves and two blossoms with six petals. Stands 10 1/2" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Two salt drips on the back in the making.
