Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Butter Crock made by "A. Conrad, New Geneva, PA."
Alexander Conrad ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1870-1882 before moving to Shinnston, WV (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 164-65).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Thick Semi-Squared Rim with Deep Groove for Tying a Cover over the Top and Accented with a Cobalt Stripe, Three Lines of Advertising in Large Letters and Leaf Accent, and the Capacity Number Framed by Leaves. Measures 7 1/2" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 3/4" chip on the left handle and a faint 2" line at the base wrapping under 2" (closeup). That's it! No rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
