Item 12398
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Decoration.
The form and decoration make it easy to attribute this cake crock to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Tooled Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and Two Sideways Brushed Cobalt Tulips on Each Side. The tulips have 6 to 10 leaves and blossoms with 8 to 10 petals. All the cobalt is dark and shiny. Measures 5 3/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/2" chips on the outside of the rim. That's it! No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
