Item 6704
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Butter Crock.
The decoration makes it easy to attribute this crock to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Double Semi-Squared Rim, Inscribed Shoulder, Applied Handles, and a Garland of Brushed Cobalt Flowers Around the Middle. The garland consists of two large sideways flowers in rich brushed cobalt on each side. Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. Measures 9 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A single 3/8" chip on the rim and a 6" hairline confined to the bottom as shown. No inner rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
