Item 7786
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to Richard Remmey of Philadelpia.
Richard Remmey made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Square Rim and Shoulder with a Deep Groove for Ease of Tying Down a Cloth or Waxed Paper Cover, and Three Brushed Cobalt Dangling Florals Around the Middle. The florals have 14-18 leaves and a long blossom with 10-12 petals. This is a very pleasing and identifiable Remmey decoration. Bright cobalt too! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Good Condition. Some traces of water glass staining inside. A flat 1" flake on top of the rim and four 1/8" nibbles on the outside of the rim. A small section of light exfoliation below one blossom (closeup). No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
