Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Grooved Rim to Allow a Covering to be Tied Over the Top and Under the Rim, and Three Flowers Around the Shoulder Brushed in Strong Cobalt. The flowers sport the distinctive Grier angular leaves and three petal blossom. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Mottled glaze in the making.
