    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Decorated Stoneware Jar.


    This is the work of Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9). 
     
    Circa 1870, this beauty features Four Cobalt Leaves around the Middle.   All the decoration is executed in strong cobalt.  Stands 11" tall.

     

    Very Good Condition.  Three small chips on the rim (1/4" to 1/2").  That's it!  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some short surface craze lines of age (closeup).  A stone protrusion in the making.
