Item 12137
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Cream Pot attributed to R. J. Grier of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Squared Rim, Inscribed Line at the Shoulder, and Three Cobalt Florals in the Distinctive Grier Style. A cluster of leaves gives way to a stem with two leaves and a blossom with multiple petals. Measures 8" tall and 8" wide across the top.
I have seen quite a few Grier jars and milk bowls, but rarely a cream pot.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. Slightly out of round in the making.
