Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Gallon Ovoid Jar from Philadelphia.
The early form and floral decoration is reminiscent of stoneware by Henry Remmey of Philadelphia after his arrival from Baltimore. Henry Remmey, Jr. ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 8-10).
Circa 1840, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Squared Rim, Applied Handles with Cobalt Accent, and an Upright Brushed Cobalt Tulip on one side and a Sideways Tulip on the other. Bright and shiny cobalt. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A single 1/4" chip inside one handle. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
