Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar attributed to R. J. Grier of Mount Jordan, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Ralph Grier and family ran a pottery in Chester County, Pennsylvania from the 1840's to 1910 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 12-13).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Tooled Rim and Shoulder Incorporating a Groove for Tying a Cloth or Waxed Paper Over the Top, and Three Cobalt Florals in the Distinctive Grier Style. A cluster of leaves gives way to a stem with a blossom with multiple petals. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some residual water glass staining rings inside, and a narrow 1" chip on the bottom edge. No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, outer stains, or restoration.
