Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Superb 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "James Hamilton & Co., Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Wide Straight and Wavy Stripe at the Top and a Wide Stripe at the Bottom that Frame the Company Advertising in a Paisley-Shaped Label Bordered by Fine Vining with the Capacity Number below Framed by Leaves. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
The contrast between the background glaze and decoration and the strength and crispness of the decoration make this an exceptional jar.
Excellent Condition. So very light scattered stains. Otherwise as made.
