Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Pitcher made and stamped by "S. Pepson, Albany, N.Y."
This is the mark of Stephen Pepson was an English immigrant who worked with various potters in Albany includin Orcutt and Thayer from around 1847 to 1890. His stoneware is not common, especially in the pitcher form (Warren Broderick and William Bouck, Pottery Works: Potteries of New York State's Capital District and Upper Hudson Region, pp. 54-57).
This beauty features a Classic 19th Century Pitcher Form with Tall Rim, Pinched Spout, Long Neck, and Bulbous Base. It features the pottery stamp on the neck and an Albany slip glaze. Stands 10" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1 1/2" flat chip on top of the right side of the spout (closeup 1), a 3/4" chip inside the left side of the spout (closeup 2), and a faint 1" hairline from the rim to the handle in the back. No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
