Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Decorated Stoneware Cuspidor Spittoon.

The form and decoration make it easy to attribute this spittoon to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Circa 1870, this beauty features Flower Petals Five Large Brushed Cobalt Comma Vines Around the Rim.  The generous, dark cobalt creates an exuberant garland.  Measures 4 1/2" tall and 8 1/2" wide across the top.

Exceptional Condition.  As made.  No damage of any kind!  Surface drying/firing lines on the underside in the making.
