Item 11781
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Batter Jug whose decoration indicates that it was made by Nathan Clark, Jr. of Athens, N.Y.
Nathan Clark, Jr. ran the family pottery in Athens from 1843-1891 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66).
This beauty sports a Low and Wide Form, Tooled Rim with Inner Seating Ring for a Lid, Tooled Shoulder, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral on the Front. The floral sports seven leaves and a blossom made of three concentric wavy circles. Stands 8 3/4" tall.
It did not come to me with a lid, but would have had one. So I matched up one in Albany slip which fits perfectly and is the color of the inside glaze.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip inside the rim, and a 3/4" chip outside the rim. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. The lid has two chips on the top edge (1/2", 3/4").
