Item 5924
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon Blue and White Country Spongeware Pitcher.
This shape and form is uncommon. I have only seen about 10 of these and 8 of them came from an old log cabin home I picked in Western Kentucky about 10 years ago. The owner said she picked them up at Nashville fleamarkets in the 1970's.
Dating around 1890, this beauty is Hand-Turned with Ball Form, Pouty-Lipped Spout, Handle Close to the Body (an indicator of age), and Cat's Paw Sponging in Dark Cobalt Blue. 5 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A shallow 7/8" sliver chip on top of the left side of the spout (closeup). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Glaze retraction near the bottom on the making.
