Item 11355
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock from New Brighton, PA. This is indicated by the Monogram of "N" & "B" on the front in cobalt script.
This was one decoration used by the pottery of Elverson, Sherwood, and Barker of New Brighton in their early days before the stenciled "E. S. & B." This company was in business from 1881-1890 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 140-142).
Dating to the 1880's, this beauty features Salt Glaze, a Freehand "2" Capacity Mark, and the "NB" Monogram. All the decoration is in strong cobalt blue. Measures 9 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
There is also a mysterious hand-drawn E at the top of the left side (closeup).
Very Good Condition. Shallow chipping inside the rim in the back as shown. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
