Item 3608
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jar that reads, "From A. D. Martin, Merchant, Pittsburgh, PA."
This jar was made by one of the potteries in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Typically merchant jars from Pittsburgh were made in SW Pennsylvania in Greensboro by one of the Hamilton potteries. I don't recall seeing many merchant jars made in Beaver for the Pittsburgh Market.
Dating around 1880, this beauty features the Merchant Advertising Decorated with a Freehand Leaf Across the Top. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" chip on the lid seating rim inside, and a couple small stains on the back. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some loss to the cobalt in the making.
Recently purchased from the family in which it has descended.
