Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this exceptional Multi-Glazed Redware Wall Pocket.

It is attributed to J. Eberly of Strasburg, Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley.  See a similar example that sold at Jeff Evans Auctions as Lot 1002 on 9/23/23 for $12,000.

Circa 1890, this beauty is wheel-thrown, and sports a coggled rim, applied scroll hanger, applied decoration, small footer, and a streaked copper and manganese over a cream slip under lead glaze.  The applied decoration includes a double floral on the front with two blossoms and two leaves upon which a bird is perched as she pecks at a berry.  Stands 7 3/4" tall.

Excellent Conditiion.  A 1/4" flake on the rim on the right side at the back, a pinhead-size nibble on the bird's beak and one leaf, and a 1/4" chip on the back of the footer.  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A kiln mark on the top of the rim on both sides in the making.

Truly an exceptional example of the Virginia wall pocket form.  Exceptional for artistry, color, and condition.
