Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock stamped "Jordan."
The decoration and capacity number indicate that it was made by Sidney Norton who started and ran the first pottery in Jordan somewhere between 1825 and 1855 (William C. Ketchum, Jr., Potters and Potteries of New York State, 1650-1900. 2nd ed. pp. 299-301).
This beauty features Tooled Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Two Brushed Cobalt Tulips Emerging from Five Leaves and Two Leafy Curled Stems. Measures 11 1/4" tall and wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Traces of water glass staining inside, a 1/2" chip inside the rim, 3 chips and a surface ping outside the rim (1/2" to 3/4"), a 2" hairline from the rim in the back (closeup), a 1/2" chip under the left handle, and a few small glaze flakes under the right handle. No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
