Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware 2 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "S. Blair, Cortland."  

 

This is the work of Sylvester Blair of Cortland, New York.  He ran the first pottery in Cortland from 1829 to 1835 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p.  71). 

 

This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freedhand Capacity Number, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip.  Stands 13 1/4". 

 

Excellent Condition.  A narrow 1/2" chip on the top of the spout on the left side, a 1/2" chip on top of the handle, and a 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge.  No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A small stone ping at the base of the handle in the making.
