Item 11203
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, PA."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features a Wide Stripe at the Rim, Wavy Stripe on the Shoulder, the Company Advertising in the Middle Framed by Tulips at the Top and Leaves at the Bottom, and a Wide Cobalt Stripe at the Bottom. All the cobalt is dark and complete, and forms a strong contrast with the light gray glaze. Altogether, it makes for a very fancy jar! Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A faint stain run to the left of the decoration. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A slight kiln touch to the left of the decoration and some mottling in the glaze on the shoulder in the making.
